Simba defeated defending Champions Waydad Casablanca 1-0 at Benjamin Mpaka stadium in Dar es Salaam thanks to Jean Baleke’s lonely goal.
Mamelodi Sundowns defeated CR Belouizdad of Algeria 4 goals to 1 thanks to Neo Maema, Cassius Mailula and Peter Shalulilie’s brace.
Peter Shalulilie’s two goals took his tally to 5 level with Raja Casablanca’s Hamza Khabba as they are the leading top scorers of the tournament.
In other games, record champions Al Ahly defeated Raja Casablanca 2 goals to nil.
The return leg will be on Friday and Saturday next week.
